The album is conceptually a revisiting of the traditional and early psychedelic Arabic music, all through distorted paths and instruments, remashed and deconstructed sounds, recreating patterns with diverse instruments to give a different perspective of the sound itself. Over the course of the LP, the duo weaves a vast array of influences ranging from world music to minimal and back - Cico mentions Reich, Glass, Ligeti, and Nancarrow when asked about his key influences - into an electro-acoustic tapestry of sound that includes hypnotic layers, surprising melodies almost reminiscent of The Strokes, and some fine home-made soundtrack material that would make any super-8 collection look even better. Elsewhere, Joasihno even live up to Cico's last name when "Some Light" indeed sounds a bit like Beck Hansen trapped in the garden of intricate beats. ![]() ![]() Still in the end, the decals are very thin and delicate so care in handling is essential. ![]() Not wanting to mess up these decals I wound up cutting the larger pieces into multiple smaller parts and applied them that way. With in 3 business days I received a new set of decals from Round 2 in perfect shape! Thank you Round 2 for your prompt and courteous response. I emailed Round 2 for replacement information they were very helpful and forwarded me to a decal replacement form that I downloaded and returned the required proofs of purchase. My side stripes broke into numerous pieces and had to be replaced. I found my set of decals to be very thin and fragile in that they tore easily and were prone to folding over on themselves. I generally do not have issues when decaling but I did with this car. To offer a contrast to the yellow car I chose to use the black decals, I had seen pictures of the built up Road Runner with white decals and that just didn’t do it for me. As mentioned earlier the decal sheet is work of art. The chassis plate is very simple with all of the underside parts molded in except for the rear axle here I chose to paint everything flat black as it was not the highlight of the kit.Īfter letting the paint rest after polishing, it was time to decal the car. The interior was painted semi-gloss black with Testors “leather” simulating the extensive use of plastic “wood” so prevalent to dash boards of that era. It is painted Testors Chrysler blue and red. The engine is basic but captures the feel of the big Wedge motor. Decals for the 340 CID are included but are not correct for the big block. The kit engine depicts the “big block” Mopar V8 of the time. After a second stripping I then coated the body parts with 2 coats of Tamiya white primer letting it dry thoroughly for 2 days before painting the parts with Testors lacquer Daytona yellow (a GM color better representing the paler shade of yellow of the box art car) and then color sanded the body to a deep shine. This indicated that there was an issue with the plastic and needed to be sealed. The same blotching occurred with different color paint. I stripped the paint in Super Clean (wearing rubber gloves and eye protection) and repainted with a new can and color of paint. On my first and second coat of paint I noticed that I had both glossy and semi-gloss patches on plastic. Normally I spray Testors lacquer directly over bare plastic without issue. Testors have a Lemon Twist (Chrysler Yellow PY 3) lacquer in their line so I grabbed a can at my hobby shop. Since I was infatuated with the box art car, I was anxious to start the build. The kit contains most if not all of the stock parts from the original issue including beautifully chromed pieces and various Road Runner stripes and other decorations in red, white and black variations. Quite frankly it was the box art that got me interested in this kit. The kit comes in heavy box with Round 2’s new signature graphics depicting Daisy’s Lemon Twist yellow Road Runner with black RR graphics. Round 2 LLC has done an admirable job cleaning up and adding to the reissue of an old favorite. This current iteration of the MPC “B” body annual dates back to 1971. Power and transmission offerings varied from the base 318 CID V8 all the way up to the 440 CID (7.2L) wedge motor. The 1974 Road Runner was the 4th model year of the “fuselage” styling of the Chrysler B body series cars. PLEASE ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE PLACING BID.While being a fan of the Dukes of Hazzard series, I didn’t remember Bo and Luke’s cousin Daisy driving a yellow Road Runner however a quick search on the internet confirmed that Daisy did indeed drive/race a 1974 yellow and black striped Road Runner in season 1 and 2 before changing to “Dixie” the CJ-7 Jeep. Case in point, I was getting near the end of the game (story wise) but was being diligent about side-quests. There’s just so much information to process that it can be hard to take it all in and frankly you’re more likely to miss out on some pretty crucial details that would make your ride through the game so much easier. This is made all the more confusing in no small part to the game’s convoluted menu system that is split across both the TV and the Wii U GamePad. Well that would be ideal but just like the first game, Xenoblade Chronicles X doesn’t do the best job at telling you what you will actually need in order to succeed, making tinkering with your team something that is rife with trial and error, especially in the early goings. This means that setting up your party with the proper gear and load-outs is paramount to the task at hand as you’ll often need to tweak your party and their armament before heading out to a mission. You still use arts to input battle commands and must strategically chose which to use when in order to maximize their effect. Let’s set aside these differences for a moment to talk about how Xenoblade Chronicles X actually plays, because it’s actually quiet similar to the original where combat is concerned. It’s a stark departure from the first game but it works really well though and gives the game a unique vibe and feel that is unlike any other game Nintendo has ever published. While that’s not entirely absent from Xenoblade X, this is much more of a hard sci-fi adventure, with lots of mechanical structures, guns, energy, weapons and mechs, all steeped with a healthy dose of blue neon and carbon fiber aesthetics. Now if you played the original game or read my recent review, you’ll immediately see that Xenoblade Chronicles X is absolutely nothing like the original Xenoblade Chronicles which had plenty of magical and fantastical elements to its world. Cross is charged with expanding Frontier Nav, a series of autonomous beacons that, once activated will not only provide New LA with precious resources but allow the humans to discover more about their new home and eventually allow them to expand outside their city walls. Then there’s the indigenes that roam the planet, not interested in sharing their home with newcomers. ![]() Of course the aliens that attacked before are still out for blood and looking to finish off humanity once and for all. Once you are brought up to speed you find that, while New LA is relatively safe for the time being there’s threats all around. Not long after these events a pod containing the hero of this story Cross, is discovered by an expedition group from New LA lead by Elma and Lin, two of the citie’s finest. The ship in flames, the emergency latches holding the city pod is released and thus New Los Angeles is born, on the surface of a hostile planet. It doesn’t take long however for the war to catch up to the survivors and the ship is brought down over an uncharted world called Mira. A solitary ship, the White Whale blasts off from the surface, warping away from the apocalyptic scene en route for a new home away from the way that claimed the planet. Earth has been destroyed, caught in the crossfire between warring alien factions, the planet we call home has been reduced to a pile of rubble. Xenoblade Chronicles X opens with a scene of utter destruction. A massive game that pushed the Wii U console to its limit, this is a title that may always be overshadowed when it comes to the mainline Xenoblade games but deserves recognition nonetheless. I’m talking about games like Game & Wario, Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and the topic of today’s review – Xenoblade Chronicles X. Not to say that the system didn’t have plenty of fantastic games but so many of them were oddball titles, part of larger series but belonging firmly in the ‘spin-off’ category. ![]() The Wii U was a bizarre system with a bunch of bizarre games as part of its lineup. ![]() ![]() Borderlands 2 was released for Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2012, and it was ported to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as part of The Handsome Collection in March 2014. Among the game's diverse cast of characters, Handsome Jack, the central antagonist, was created to be a charismatic "douche" that mirrors Burch's own personality. The team attempted to address players' feedback from the first game, and recruited Anthony Burch who wrote the game's script which is seven times longer than that of the original game. Like its predecessor, the game adopted the "concept art style", which features graphics inspired by both photorealistic imagery and comic-book-inspired visuals. With the unexpected success of the first game, Gearbox was able to secure a budget of $30–35 million to develop the sequel. Like its predecessor, the game features a procedurally generated loot system which is capable of generating numerous combinations of weapons and other gear. The game features the ability to explore the in-game world and complete both main missions and optional side quests, either in offline splitscreen, single-player or online cooperative gameplay. ![]() The story follows a new group of Vault Hunters who must ally with the Crimson Raiders, a resistance group made up of civilian survivors and guerrilla fighters, to defeat the tyrannical Handsome Jack before he can unlock the power of a new Vault. Supply wagons can be built and sent to armies in the field and other cities, either over land or sea. Creating a supply chain is a manual undertaking, which can become a little frustrating when trying to field larger armies so naturally, it’s better to try to create smaller forces tailored for specific actions. Unsupplied troops will find themselves at a major disadvantage, and it’s imperative that besieged cities are supplied, or they will fall to the enemy rather easily. This isn’t the case in Alea Jacta Est managing a supply system is challenging, sometimes restrictive, but also rather rewarding. Supplies are an important aspect of any military campaign, but keeping troops fed and equipped isn’t particularly flashy so it usually gets glossed over in strategy games. This makes the often dull mechanic of army movement a lot more engaging. Different terrain confers bonuses and penalties - as does the weather and infrastructure, like roads - so it’s often better to fine tune the unit’s route, and perhaps take the long way around. That’s rather handy, but it’s not necessarily the smartest strategy. Dragging the portrait of a unit or a stack and placing it on the desired destination will automatically send it across the fastest route. Player forces and AI-controlled ones move together, so one can easily be taken by surprise, and the 30 or so seconds it takes for the action phase to complete feel like an age.Įven the simplest commands, like ordering troops to move, require a lot of planning. ![]() Watching the twitching and sliding of the battle meters and the waiting for the conflict reports can be a surprisingly nail-biting experience. Battles are fought, enemies strike, and come the next turn, you are left to deal with the aftermath. The second phase fast forwards the game by 30 days, and your plans are put into action. The first phase is where players plan their faction’s actions, whether that be making political decrees to curry favor with the masses by giving out bread or hosting a circus, or ordering troops to besiege a city and sorting out what legions need supplies and so on. This Roman romp is a turn-based affair, with each turn being split into two phases. Factions are not particularly balanced, and without foreknowledge it’s rather difficult to now how challenging playing a faction will be - not making players aware of the difficulty levels seems a bit remiss. Although it’s nothing but a nudge in the right direction, it’s a welcome one. The introduction to each campaign outlines the historical context for the conflict, as well as offering a couple of hints on what obstacles each faction must overcome. An interest in Roman history comes in quite handy, as scenarios are designed to play out with a great deal of historical accuracy. ![]() They cover a lot of ground, from the end of the Republic, to the end of the Principate and the first age of the Roman Empire. It starts with the civil war between Marius and Sulla, one of the most famous conflicts of the Late Republic and ends with the conflict between Septimius Severus and Pescennius Niger, who were both elected Emperor by the legions of the west and east, respectively. Six campaigns are offered up to prospective military masterminds, representing some of the most famous conflicts Rome had with herself, including some that you might not be as familiar with. After doing a bit of homework, however, I found myself planning sieges, controlling troop movements, and building or toppling empires like a veteran general - it felt wonderful. There’s no babysitting here, no advisers to tell you what to do you’re given your armies, land, and your greater objectives and sent off to either recreate history or rewrite it. Before I could even cross the Rubicon, I was punched in the face by the game’s dizzying array of menus, elements, and systems, and I found myself more than a little bit lost. It covers scenarios focusing on the internal strife of the Roman state, from Republic to Empire, and it makes me wish I was better at making spreadsheets.Īlea Jacta Est is one of the first games in a long time that has caused me to go hunting for information in an instruction manual, even after completing the title’s bare-bones tutorial. ![]() Out of the many phrases attributed to the father of comb-overs, Julius Caesar, “Alea iacta est” (The die has been cast) is undoubtedly the most appropriate for something that feels like one of the most complicated board games I’ve ever played.Īlea Jacta Est is a massively expansive Roman strategy game from AGEOD, a French developer probably best known for American Civil War. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Having been in the production of professional audio systems for so long, Altec Lansing finally entered the general consumer market in 1948 by producing the first high-fidelity audio system for the general public.
